Snow Guards are roofing accessories that help prevent snow slides and the dangerous movement of snow and ice by suspending it in a holding field on the roof so it can melt completely or drop off in small amounts. Adding beauty and function, our clear polycarbonate snow-guards help prevent damage from snow avalanche while remaining practically invisible. Plastic snowguards are a cost-effective, aesthetically pleasing addition to any corrugated standing seam metal, asphalt, shingle or slate roof located in a winter climate zone. Several important features to consider when selecting snow retention for metal roofing applications are the height, width and shape of an ice guard or rail system. This determines the roof guards ability to hold back layers of heavy ice and snow, thus eliminating potential roof snow slides. A pad style snow stop should have a flat, forward mounted face that measures at least 3 inches across and stands no less than 2.5 inches high. It must be mounted in the lowest portion of the roofing panel where the snow and ice actually moves, not on a high seam above the problem area. Snow Brackets mounted on the elevated portion of a roof panel will cease to be effective once the frozen precipitation compacts itself on the panel and becomes lower than the guard. In addition to snow blocks, sometimes referred to as snowjacks, there is also a product made specifically to protect the roof vent pipes and chimneys called VentSaver. |
